The council revealed all of Ghana’s 25 unaccredited nursing schools currently run different programmes ranging from Nurse Assistant (HAC) to Nursing and Midwifery programmes
It has been revealed that about 25 nursing and midwifery institutions are unaccredited and have been blacklisted. The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana has released a list of 25 unaccredited nursing and midwifery schools. Accordinf to the council, all of Ghana’s 25 unaccredited nursing schools currently run different programmes ranging from Nurse Assistant (HAC) to Nursing and Midwifery programmes.
The council has warned the public against enrolling into the schools, as they will be doing so at their own risk. Reports from the council revealed that only two regions; Upper East and Volta regions, have no unaccredited schools.
The Greater Accra Region has the highest number of unaccredited health institutions. They include; Kings College of Health and Business Studies, Mendskrom; Ripples Healthcare, Korle-Gonno; Peniel School of Allied Health, Health Management Institute, Dansoman; Golden Sunbeam International College of Science and Technology, School of Health and Allied Sciences, Dodowa; Greenhills School of Health Sciences, near Malam market.
The report also revealed many unaccredited institutions in the Brong Ahafo region. They include; the REA College of Health, Sunyani; SAARS Academy, Bechem; Mount Olive Health Care Institute, Techiman Municipality; Itellis Healthcare Institute, Techiman; Monreve Healthcare Institute, Dormaa Ahenkro.
Coming to the Ashanti region, they include; Newman College of Nursing, Atwima Techiman, near Kwadaso, Boakye Dankwa Memorial Healthcare Training Institute, Dikyemso-Kumasi, and Afia Kobi Nursing Training College, Moro market, Tafo Nhyiaeso. Ashanti region recorded the third highest number of unaccredited nursing training school.
The unaccredited institutions in the Eastern Region include; Dasein Practical School of Nursing (HAC) -Akim-Oda, Ensign University College of Public Health, St Augustine’s Nursing School, Tei Nkwanta. The Northern region has one unaccredited nursing training institute; Mon Reve Healthcare/Nursing Training School, Tamale.
In the Western Region, New Crystal Healthcare, Takoradi, Premier Healthcare, Takoradi, are also not accredited. Upper West region also has one unaccredited training institution. It is Mon Reve Healthcare Institute, Wa.
The nursing council has stated that the aforementioned schools have not been licensed to run health training programmes, and should be avoided by prospective applicants.
