The Nigerian actress banned from acting, is said to have promoted immoral acts on video, after she cuddled in a romantic musical video by a musician
Though it sounds ridiculous; a prominent actress has been banned in Nigeria for hugging a man in a music video. Rahama Sadau was banned by the Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (Moppan) after she played a character holding hands and “cuddling” a singer in a pop video.
More into the story, Rahama Sadau was one of the top stars in Kannywood, the Hausa-language film industry based in Northern Nigeria. According to Moppan, despite warnings by the association, Rahama has repeatedly failed to adhere to the conservative values of the region.
Moppan who imposed the ban, has said the actress will no longer feature in Kannywood movies. The chairman of Moppan, Muhammadu Kabiru Maikaba who interacted with the media regarding the development, maintained the ban was total. According to him, the actress has been warned several times, but always disobeys and tarnishes the image of the industry, hence her performance in the music video with singer was the last straw.
Kannywood, the northern Nigerian film industry named after its base in the city of Kano as has been gathered, does not allow obscene clips, or for any of its actors and actresses to feature in immoral video scenes. The video in question which was released in September, saw Rahama play the role of market woman who fell in love with the singer, ClassiQ, a musician from Jos, capital of Plateau state of Nigeria.
In the music video titled “I love you”, the two were seen cuddling and holding hands romantically, which is unacceptable in the industry. Mappon who says they have had enough of Rahama’s misconduct have resorted to imposing a ban on the actress.
Moppan maintains it aims to protect Kannywood from the outrage of conservative Muslim clerics, who have constantly accused the industry of being a negative influence on family values.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian actress banned for promoting immoral acts has responded to the ban saying she was only carrying out her role as an actress. The actress has issued a statement saying she takes full responsibility for her actions.
