Nii John Coleman, defeated NDC Klottey Korle Parliamentary Candidate aspirant, who together with incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Nii Armah Ashietey filed a suit challenging the eligibility of Dr. Zanetor Rawlings as Parliamentary Candidate has reportedly backed out of the case. This certainly is not a welcome development for co plaintiff Nii Ashietey.
According to him, he took the decision following advice he got from the Greater Accra Regional Council of Elders of the party led by Nii Okaidja Adamafio former MP for Odododiodio.
John Coleman had filed a joint lawsuit along side Nii Ashietey challenging the eligibility of Zanetor Rawlings to contest for the Klottey Korle NDC Parliamentary primary.
Both of them had been beaten by Rawlings at the party’s primary election. But unsatisfied with the results, they jointly filed a suit to contesting her eligibility as a registered voter. The suit claimed that Zanetor’s win was unlawful because she is not a registered voter. Counsel for Zanetor had filed an application for the case to be dismissed but it was denied .
However in the ruling of the court, the presiding judge said the motion was without basis. The lawyers were then ordered to open their defense on the case.
It was gathered that Nii John Coleman shocked his co-plaintiff, Nii Ashietey as well as his supporters when he opted out of the suit. He also said that his move is not based on the fact that he had been threatened by anyone. Nii Ashietey was said to contest the withdrawal procedure, as he opposed Coleman’s withdrawal.
But the judge granted the application which now leaves Nii Armah Ashietey as the sole plaintiff in the case. The case was adjourned to March 16.
