It has been gathered that the New Patriotic Party is expecting to get as much as 260,000 votes from Voltarians.
According to reports, the Volta Regional branch of the NPP says it will shock the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming election as regards the number of Voltarians that will cast their votes for the party.
Mr Joseph Homenya, the NPP Volta Regional Secretary, at a press conference said the party is working with a solid plan towards winning three parliamentary seats in the region and 30% (260,000 estimated votes) of all valid votes cast.
We all are well aware of the fact that the Volta Region is usually regarded as the NDC’s strong hold. But in the midst of that Mr Homenya assures that the NPP is already picking positive results in the region ahead of the polls.
Meanwhile, Mr Peter Amewu, the Regional Chairman of NPP, expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people for their overwhelming welcome to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the party’s flagbearer, during his tour of the southern part of the region.
He said the Volta Region had nothing to fear when Nana Addo became the president and that the NPP’s development agenda encompassed all, the Volta Region inclusive.
Among other contents of the NPP’s manifesto, Mr Amewu reassured the people that Nana Addo’s government would construct a mini harbour at Keta, create industrial zone at Ketu North and South, reactivate the salt industry, stop pair-trawling, and restore allowances to trainee teachers and nurses.
He also called on the media and other stakeholders including the Electoral Commission to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election.
From several indications, it appears the New Patriotic Party is completely set to take over power come November. Although many Ghanaians strongly doubt its possibility, we are beginning to think it may eventually become a reality!
