Teen Rapper Awal Releases New Single in Honour of Sarkodie for Supporting His Education and Career

Rapper Awal Mohammed, will today [Wednesday] release a new single titled, ‘Thankful’ in honour of award-winning musician, Sarkodie. Reports have it that Sarkodie took care of Awal’s SHS education, and so the teen rapper has decided to thank him in a song for his kind gestures.

Sarkodie has been Awal’s god-father. He assisted him to release two hit songs titled ‘Keep Feeling It‘ and ‘Bone Ben’. He also gave him the opportunity to perform on major platforms like Ghana Meets Naija and Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). Sarkodie didn’t stop there, but went ahead to finance Awal’s SHS education.

Awal decided to record the new song titled ‘Thankful’ to acknowledge his god-father for all he has been doing for him. He also thanked TV3 for coming up with Talented Kidz which brought him to limelight and also gave him the opportunity to meet his mentor, Sarkodie.


The song was produced by Fortune Dane, the same person who produced Sarkodie’s ‘Hand-To-Mouth’ hit song. It also features Fortune Dane, and is dedicated to Sarkodie who has been supporting Awal’s education and career

About Mohammed Awal

Awal was jut 12 years old when he was discovered after he placed 3rd at the 2010 Tv3 Talented Kids Reality Show.

He revealed then, that he started rapping at the age of six and writes his own songs. According to Awal, he started withe the Obrafour style of rapping but subsequently changed to Sarkodie’s after realizing Sarkodie’s style suits him better. It was also noted by the audience at the event then that Awal’s rap style was very similar to that of Sarkodie.

Following the remarkable event, Sarkodie took interest in the young chap, and that was how he came to be his god-father. Awal has been living with Sarkodie for six years now – they still live together.

He disclosed that among all the musicians he had worked on collaborations with, he deems Sarkodie one of the greatest mentors who inspires him in the music industry. He specifically noted that Sarkodie takes pains to teach him many things he had never known in music, as against other artistes he had worked with on collaborations.
